This paper puts forward recommendations for the improvement of peacebuilding efforts as undertaken in the framework of UN peacebuilding missions. The analysis refines the idea of a peacebuilding commission as put forward by UN Secretary General in his report of 21 March 2005. In addition, other issues such as the recruitment policy for peacebuilding missions, civil-military cooperation in the field, cooperative partnership with the local population, and social and psychological aid programs for former combatants.
