This brief’s author explores 1) the belief that humanitarianism and development should be linked more closely together; 2) the initial steps that have been taken to rethink the humanitarian-development nexus; and 3) the international agreements and commitments that have been pursued with the above synergy in mind. The author also discusses the potential consequences of this “new thinking,” which puts a premium on prevention, localized agendas, and altering existing aid and business models.
