This paper 1) investigates the historical role women have played in the political life of India’s northeastern state of Manipur, and 2) describes how the past is shaping the present, particularly when it applies to women peace activists and agents of change. The text’s author further contends that the inclusion of women in policymaking and peace building processes not only helps protect women´s rights, it also preserves the responsibilities, values, and beliefs that derive from age-old societal traditions.
