This paper discusses the political situation between the People's Republic of China and Taiwan as it presented itself in 2000. The author argues that relations between the two states has reached an impasse. The paper concludes that the long-standing US policy of maintaining strategic ambiguity with respect to China and Taiwan continues to pay dividends.
