This paper is based on the discussions from a seminar held in Flensburg, Germany and Bjerremark, Denmark in September 1997. The seminar analyzed the history of ethnopolitical conflict in Moldova and examined the potential for future interethnic accord in the country. The gathering brought together diplomats, politicians, university professors and businessmen from Moldova proper, as well as Transdniestria and the Gagauz regions. The meetings sought to create ideas to revitalize the stalled negotiations between the conflictîng parties in Moldova and to explore possibilities for interethnic cooperation and agreement.
