This paper assesses the state of inter-ethnic relations in Macedonia. The author provides a history of the development of ethnic relations in the country and assesses the impact of the Yugoslav legacy. The paper examines the varying levels of participation in public life by minority groups in the country and highlights the importance of integrating civil society in international and regional initiatives in Southeastern Europe.
