This study examines changes in the political and economic structure of the global defense industry since the end of the Cold War. The author addresses the trends driving the restructuring of the global defense sector and speculates on the shape of the emerging system. The author gives special attention to the political implications of US dominance of the global defense sector and also offers an analysis of the options and strategies available to other national defense industries. The report concludes that the global defense industrial sector reflects the international order and provides the US with an important diplomatic tool for rewarding compliance and punishing non-cooperation.
