This study examines differences in perception between India and Pakistan regarding the legal status of Kashmir since the 1947 partition of India. The author gives special attention to the issues of sovereignty and domestic jurisdiction in the case of the region. In addition, the author considers how India and Pakistan’s differing perceptions have shaped their political stances and actions in relation to Kashmir and each other. Finally, the impact of these perceptions on cross-border terrorism and resolving the conflict on an international level are also discussed.
