This paper discusses the growing tensions between the US and the European countries over the conflict in Iraq. The author analyzes trans-Atlantic relations from a political, economic and sociological viewpoint and explains the political structure of the international system using a theoretical framework of international relations theories. The paper concludes that in order to face the major global challenges, including security policy challenges, the US depends on the goodwill and cooperation of the international community.
