This paper discusses the October 2006 crisis between Russia and Georgia. The author argues that the EU may find itself confronting a war in its new neighborhood sooner than it imagines. She also sees a window of opportunity for Brussels to enhance and reposition itself in the region in an effort to bolster its interests. The paper concludes that the EU should take an active role in conflict resolution in the region.
