This article provides a historical overview of Europe’s migrant policy and outlines supranational and national competencies as well as the status of third country nationals. It compares promotion strategies for selective labor migration of third country nationals in Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and the UK. It concludes by suggesting ideas for a common European policy on immigration.
