This report analyzes the history of nuclear cooperation between the US and the UK. The authors discuss in particular the 1958 Agreement For Cooperation on the Uses of Atomic Energy for Mutual Defence Purposes – also known as the Mutual Defence Agreement (MDA). The report highlights the efforts of the British government since 2003 to renew the bilateral MDA agreement with the US and the challenges encountered in the process.
