This article discusses the US' intention to establish parts of its strategic missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic. The author outlines the evolution of the missile program and introduces the technical concept of the shield. He identifies three main reasons for contention: the rejection of the project by the Russian administration and the impact on Europe's relations with its Eastern neighbor; the feasibility of missile defense; and lastly, the role of NATO in this regard.
