This paper analyzes the March 2007 vote in the House of Commons on the future of the UK nuclear deterrent. The author explains that even though the vote authorized the construction of next generation British nuclear submarines, the political discussion will not end with it. The paper states that the vote on Trident renewal in the UK came too early and that it could have been postponed to coincide with the next Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference in 2010.
