This paper analyzes the role of the Euro-Atlantic institutions in preventing Balkan conflict. It discusses several security challenges in the region - Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenagro and Kosovo - and examines the efforts of international and regional organizations like NATO and the EU to stabilize the Western Balkans. The author concludes with a set of policy recommendations with an emphasis on a coordinated NATO/EU strategy.
