This paper discusses the development and usage of an airborne laser (ABL) as a means to intercept ballistic missiles while they are still under power and before they can release their warheads. On a non-technical level, the paper explores the ABL's necessary capabilities and possible theatres of operation; it assesses the technical and military challenge and introduces the participating companies. Subsequently, the paper outlines possible deployment and service plans and assesses potential problems.
