This paper reinforces the need to understand the far reaching and complex dynamics of change within Islamism. According to the author, the views of Algerian Islamists reveal that the challenge of including Islamist movements in Euro-Mediterranean relations is not only related to the need for the EU to rethink its relations with specific political actors, but also to the EU's capacity to propose a democratization program that is more credible for Arab civil society as a whole.
