This publication addresses the issue of private sector involvement (PSI) in the financing of crisis resolution. The author synthesizes what has been learned about PSI in previous cases, proposes relevant definitions for different types of PSI, and evaluates which types under what circumstances are beneficial and which are deleterious. In conclusion, the publication argues that in crisis situations the most voluntary PSI type consistent with the circumstances should be chosen to speed return to market access.
