This publication argues that sub-Saharan African states urgently need to privatize their economy in order to reach more efficient and effective infrastructure/utility provisions and increased investments from both domestic and foreign sources. The author identifies obstacles to privatization reform processes such as public hostility toward privatization and widespread institutional weaknesses. The publication concludes that these obstacles can only be overcome through the creation and reinforcement of institutions that underpin and guide proper market operations.
