This publication gives an overview of privatization processes and their implications for society in Latin America. In a first part, the paper reviews the existing literature on that issue, while the second part summarizes the pro- and anti-privatization views in the region. In conclusion, the author argues that technically the privatization processes were successful, but politically a disaster, as benefits were spread widely and only occurred in the medium-term.
