This paper examines the presence and role of Turkish immigrants – generally referred to as ‘settlers’ – in northern Cyprus and looks at their political organization, orientation and influence. In addition, the author compares the politics of the ‘settlers’ to the politics of Turkish Cypriots in general. The paper also presents the different categories of ‘settlers’ and immigrants, the political and electoral systems of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as well as an in-depth case study of 26 villages.
