This paper considers the long-standing debate about "objective" and "subjective" risk, about the role of culture and society in the determination and experience of risk. The author describes four discourses in which the notions of risk and gender meet, develops the basic concepts of Lacanian philosophy and criticizes the argument of "mix and stir." He advances that risk is already deeply gendered and that our understanding of the somatic function can be seen through the lens of the Lacanian concept of the real.
