This paper summarizes presentations, discussions and recommendations of the first mine ban education workshop held in Kapoeta county in southern Sudan from 29 September to 1 October 2003 in order to familiarize the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement/Army's (SPLM/A) soldiers with the SPLM/A's mine ban policy. The paper introduces the global and Sudanese land mine problem, Geneva Call's policy and the implementation and monitoring of the SPLM/A's mine ban policy. Subsequently, the paper provides information on humanitarian mine action and mine action activities in Sudan.
