This paper provides background information on the nuclear separation deal signed between India and the US in March 2006. The author explains that India’s foreign policy and nuclear establishment have good reason to exult on the very favorable agreement, which outlines how India should separate its civilian and military nuclear facilities in compliance with the India-US Joint Statement of 18 July 2005. The paper examines possible future issues of contention for implementing the separation deal and states that the whole agreement between the two countries remains an active work in progress.
