This paper discusses the ongoing conflict in Waziristan, Pakistan and the role of the Taliban there. The author examines the cease fire proposal by the Pakistani government and the ensuing peace agreement. The paper states that the Taliban and its local supporters in Waziristan are the clear winners in the agreement, while the Pakistani government perhaps only in the short run, and neither Afghanistan nor the US are likely to gain any benefits from the agreement. The author explains that US-, Taliban- and al-Qaida-led strife will continue, possibly with even greater intensity.
