This paper provides an assessment of the on-ground situation in Afghanistan from 2006 to early 2007. The author examines the proposed spring offensives in the country, both those of the Taliban as well as of NATO/ISAF forces. The paper looks at what strategies are likely to be deployed and which side should face more favorable conditions for successful spring operations.
