This paper examines the hypothesis that increases in public expenditure which translates into benefits for children have a positive impact on economic growth and a negative impact on inequality. It looks at the effects of government expenditure on child indicators and the related effects of these indicators on economic growth and trends in inequality. The paper finds evidence of government expenditure having a significant impact on child-welfare indicators.
