This paper describes how the emerging changes in the global climate are also a challenge for security policy. The author explains that while global warming is unlikely to be an immediate cause of conflicts, it threatens to accentuate a number of existing threats and risks in the developing world and in industrialized nations alike. Strengthening the governance capabilities of weak states will continue to gain importance in security-policy terms. The paper emphasizes that civil-military stabilization even of distant conflict zones is, more than ever, a matter of paramount importance for the domestic security of Europe and the US.
