This paper discusses high prices on the world's rice market in 2008. The authors argue that prices may rise to the stratospheric levels last seen during the crisis in 1973-74. They also argue that the release of rice stocks by Japan, China and Thailand can bring rice prices down. The paper concludes that the US government must take the lead in making this happen.
