The publication focuses on the discordance between foreign perceptions of Japan and changes that have actually occurred in the country over the last decade. The author argues that new trends in the Japanese economy, political system and international policy arena remain under explored. The report concludes that outsiders should shift their focus away from the economic crisis of the past decade towards Japan’s future role in Asia.
