The publication examines Australian aid and its effectiveness in terms of improving governance in Indonesia. Eight Indonesian case studies inform recommendations for enhancing the delivery of Australian assistance. The following issues are explored: anti-money laundering, tax administration, combating corruption, bank monitoring, capacity building, development scholarships, restructuring of the Finance Ministry and bilateral police cooperation. The author suggests that success hinges on three elements; namely the commitment of time and resources, technical expertise and proper diagnosis of the development problem.
