This report reflects a roundtable discussion of the Australia-Indonesia relationship, which aimed to generate a better understanding of the regional and global dimensions of the bilateral relationship. It discusses the ongoing changes in Indonesia, namely: democratization, decentralization and Islamization and their impact on its political system and international policy. It also points out that Australia’s knowledge of Indonesia has been declining and that Australia needs indeed to deepen its understanding of Indonesia in order to further the relationship.
