In June 2017 the Iraqi Army managed to reestablish control over most of Mosul, three years after the city was captured by the so-called Islamic State (IS). However, this paper argues that the conflict against IS is far from over. Indeed, the text's author suggests we should expect 1) IS to transition into a guerrilla force in Iraq and Syria; 2) increased attacks in Western states; and 3) the opening of new fronts in the battle against the group in Asia, Africa and elsewhere.
