This ACLED report first reviews the violence that beset Africa in 2016 and profiles the conflicts that mar six key countries: Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Somalia and Tunisia. The report’s subsequent articles outline 1) how public and violent protests in Ethiopia have been superseded by battles between state forces and the OLF and ONLA rebel groups; 2) a decrease not only in Boko Haram activity, but also the violence being perpetrated by Fulani herders in central Nigeria; and 3) conflict scenarios that may unfold in the next few months between rival military factions and non-state groups in Libya.
