This brief examines how the Canadian government might harness the untapped potential of SMEs to spur innovation, reduce climate-related emissions, and create and retain jobs in the clean energy sector. The text’s author further argues that despite our relatively clear understanding of the resource, capacity and motivational barriers faced by SMEs, little is known about the internal characteristics that might yield transformative outcomes.
