This paper explores the Asian crisis of 1997-1998 and how it affected the countries involved. It focuses on the regional and the global response to this crisis and looks at what went wrong, the causes and the immediate response. It further examines the regional collective approach to the crisis and the extent to which these countries’ common approach to economic policy has changed. It also discusses the global response, specifically the International Monetary Fund’s response to the crisis and examines the lack of effective international policy coordination.
