This paper discusses Indonesia’s political system as a compelling case that shows how countries with a Muslim majority populace can function as democracies. The author notes that despite the progress Indonesia has achieved in several policy areas, it still faces harsh developmental problems in sectors such as infrastructure, education and health. It further discusses the impact of the decentralization program on economic growth and presents a series of policy recommendations.
