This paper discusses the challenges and opportunities posed to Australia’s and New Zealand’s economies by the emerging global economy and states that the international economic integration is a defining feature of both countries. It touches on the relevance of geography and points out that geographical isolation has significantly harmed growth in both countries. It identifies areas of bilateral cooperation that would help Australia and New Zealand to better respond to globalization’s challenges.
