This paper discusses how the rural poor can benefit more from engaging in global economic processes. It argues that while the scope for entrepreneurial participation to link into value chains associated with agriculture and the rural economy exist, its relevance to the rural poor is questionable. It calls for support of temporary and permanent migration from rural to urban areas and recommends that more value should be attributed to such labor in supporting economic advancement.
