This paper discusses numerous synergies between the poverty reduction and climate change agendas, especially in the area of "adaptation." It argues that because of the existing commonalities between the two agendas, there is an urgent need to mainstream climate change adaptation practices in sustainable development policies. It further explores poverty and sustainable development issues, considering the potential for and limitations of win-win poverty and environmental options, and assesses strategies for linking poverty, equity and environmental outcomes.
