This paper addresses policy studies on the agricultural economy in Africa and their unrealistic analysis and assumptions. It examines two sets of limitations that characterize these studies: the failure to understand the imperfection of markets and all they entail, and the failure to address how policy recommendations are to be implemented in practice. It further asks what can be done to improve matters and concludes with a number of policy recommendations.
