This publication examines the global dynamics of population mobility, as better roads and communication networks offer people employment in distant locations. The paper is concerned with the lack of official statistics that fail to cover this phenomenon and reluctance of governments to support people on the move. The authors argue that the case of India offers new policy insights in a context where poverty reduction programs have conventionally been premised on the notion that populations are sedentary.
