This study investigates the role of ethnicity in the voting patterns of Kenyans. It finds that Kenyans do not necessarily vote along ethnic lines. However, the authors find that individual identity preferences on ethnicity can affect voting patterns. Individuals who identify strongly with their ethnicity tend to vote for ethnically corresponding candidates. A December 2007 survey conducted nationally informs this study.
