This paper examines Senegalese citizens' commitment to democracy by considering the relationship between general trends in satisfaction with democracy and perceptions of government performance using two rounds of Afrobarometer survey data. Its results demonstrate a divergence in levels of satisfaction with democracy between ethnic majority and ethnic minority groups in Senegal. Between 2003 and 2005, satisfaction among ethnic minority groups rose, while in ethnic majority groups it fell.
