This paper discusses the political performance of Nigeria and asks where public sentiment under Nigeria's Fourth Republic stands in relation to the democracy system. Based on data from surveys conducted from 2001 to 2005, it provides a unique profile of changing Nigerian attitudes since the inauguration of the new civilian regime in 1999. It finds that Nigerians are broadly discouraged by the performance of their political system and do not generally believe that they have reaped the "dividends" of democracy.
