This publication provides a historical overview of Slovakia’s experience with democratic control of armed forces since 1989. Slovakia’s transition to democracy is analyzed through the lens of political culture. The author considers how public perceptions of national identity influence security and defense policy formulations. The report concludes that civil-military relations is inextricably tied to the economic and political situation.
