This brief discusses Sino-Indian trade relations and focuses on the Nathu La trade pass that stretches over the Himalayas. It argues that the pass' opening in 2006 has had mutually beneficial economic consequences for both China and India. The author reviews the history of Sino-Indian trade relations and argues that the opening of the pass has permitted improved Sino-Indian security relations and reduced tensions surrounding ongoing border disputes.
