This brief discusses the rising tide of fundamentalist Islam in the Muslim world, which the author dubs "Arabization." The author details the origins of Arabization and discusses Muslims' grievances that have helped advance a revisionist agenda of Islam. The author also discusses Wahhabism, a strict and textual interpretation of Islam advocated by the government of Saudi Arabia. In conclusion, the author argues that Arabization poses a threat to Islam in Asia and that more inclusive interpretations of Islam should be promoted.
