This paper summarizes the findings of a study conducted in Hanoi, Vietnam to determine commuters' exposure levels to particulate matters and carbon monoxide. It argues that conventional measuring practices, for example taking measurements off of roof-tops, are inadequate when analyzing conditions in Asian cities. Instead, this study employs measuring devices on various modes of transportation - including cars, buses, walking and two-wheeled vehicles - to more accurately calculate exposure levels. The authors find that exposure levels in Asian cities are particularly high and call for further research.
