This paper considers income distribution in Hawaii and particularly its effects on the Native Hawaiian community. It finds that Native Hawaiians on average have lower incomes and suffer from higher rates of poverty. The study points to lower graduation rates and difficulty accessing lending sources in the Native Hawaiian community as potential causes. It also considers micro-financing efforts that seek to help integrate the Native Hawaiian community economically.
